JIRS Cricket Team accompanied by Wg Cdr A K Jha, VSM (Retd) and M Krishna Cricket Coach toured Sri Lanka in the month of Dec 05 (09 Dec to 20 Dec). The Cricket Team was invited to play in The Second Invitational Cricket Tournament for the Nelson Mendis Challenge Trophy organized by CCC School of Cricket, Colombo Sri Lanka. This is the second year in succession our School team is participating in the competition. Our School Team played a total of 08 matches during our stay at Colombo, which includes 06 tournament matches (league) & 02 friendly matches. The team stayed in a picturesque 3 Star hotel, Hotel Palm Village (Resort by the Sea side). It had a great ambience with good facilities. The stay was very comfortable and the food was excellent. The boys had a good time playing Beach Volley Ball, Swimming and Badminton during the free time and they also had a good workout on the beaches. The team had a day out visiting the city of Colombo. The team also had a great opportunity of visiting the Asian Cricket Academy, Sri Lanka headed by Mr. Brendon Kuruppu former Sri Lankan International Cricketer. The Academy is housed in a indoor Cricket Stadium equipped with latest technology (Video Analysis) facilities with bowling machines and qualified coaches. The boys had a session of batting & bowling and they were video graphed. Later their techniques were analysed by the ACA Coaches in the Computer Room. It was a rich experience to play indoors and also bat against the bowling machine. For the closing ceremony of the tournament Sanath Jayasuria, the World famous Sri Lankan Cricketer was the Chief Guest. Roshan Mahanama and Kumara Dharmasena Former Sri Lankan Cricketers also attended the function. The boys had a great exposure and tournaments of this nature will help the boys to perform better in the days to come.
